Community
to vote on “Who’s Elvis®".
Fund Raiser to Benefit March of Dimes and Friends of Municipal
Auditorium
Five local
dignitaries and celebrities have donned the pompadour and sunglasses!
From now through
October the community will “vote,” $1 per vote, on
their favorite “King.” All proceeds go to raise funds
for March of Dimes and the Friends of the Municipal Auditorium.
Bossier Police
Chief Mike Halphen, State Rep. Roy Burrell, pediatrician Dr. Terry
Kendrick, epidemiologist, Dr. Bob Robinson and Oldies 95.7 Program
Manager J.J.O’Brien took a moment from their busy schedules
to rock 'n' roll just as Shreveport-Bossier readies to celebrate
the “50th Anniversary of Elvis® Career Appearance”
on Oct. 16.
Supporters
are encouraged to vote as much, or for as many “kings”
as they wish, according to Wendy Benscoter, chair of the 50th
Anniversary celebrations. “Voting” is available at
participating Bank Ones and also through the March of Dimes.
March of Dimes
is also celebrating a 50-year anniversary. The introduction of
the polio vaccine in 1954 saved lives from what was once a devastating
disease. Presley was a supporter of March of Dimes, and in fact
he helped lead the effort to get young people to get their polio
vaccinations in the mid-1950s.
March of Dimes
saves babies through programs and research and the Friends of
the Municipal Auditorium is working on revitalization of the Municipal.
Both are 501(C)(3) organizations. For more information, call the
March of Dimes at 318-869-0400.
